Soul inSanity playing Bonnaroo, pitching sustainability
June 8th, 2011 § 1 Comment
This is pretty cool: local “funk rockestra” Soul inSanity is playing Bonnaroo – which is this week! OK, maybe not “playing Bonnaroo” in the sense that, say , Arcade Fire or Buffalo Springfield are “playing Bonnaroo,” but it’s still quite notable. Check out the details that the band’s manager sent me:
The Orlando collective of musicians called Soul inSanity, most of whom are Rollins Alumni or current students recently found out they were booked to perform and volunteer at the Bonnaroo Music and Art Festival in Manchester TN as part of the PLANET ROO exhibit. As manager of the collective, I will be taking 4 Rollins Alumni and 1 current Rollins student, a current FSU student and a current Valencia to the festival.
We will be providing interactive musical entertainment on the RUNBus stage (which is powered by used-vegetable oil) for the YGRIN exhibit as part of the sustainability-themed Planet Roo. YGRIN (http://www.ygrin.com/) is a local Orlando community based clean energy initiative focused on helping causes and not-for-profits generate funding and awareness.
Soul inSanity will be performing five 15 minute sustainability-themed sets from 12-6 PM every day of the Festival. I will be documenting the entire experience in pictures, film and interviews with participants, attendees and Festival organizers. My goal is to highlight the successes of Rollins alumni and Central Florida music students while providing an inside look at what it’s like to be a volunteer for a major music festival, musician performing at a major music festival and how the festival culture is taking action to lead a more sustainable lifestyle through music and art. For those attending the festival, you can find the YGRIN exhibit and Soul inSanity under the giant #3 balloon on Shakedown Street.
